Paddle to the Sea - 2012 Paddling Details and Registration

Paddle-a-thon
Paddle to the Sea is a month-long Paddle-a-thon to protect the Tuolumne River.  A few people make the entire trip, and hundreds more sign up to paddle for just a day or two along the way.  Boating options include whitewater rafting, flat water canoeing, sailing, and sea kayaking.  Most trips are open to beginners.  This year, a second delegation will paddle the American River, and we've added 5 legs of their trip as additional public options.  Paddlers raise money by asking their friends and family to sponsor them for their portion of the journey.   All the money raised goes to help protect and restore the Tuolumne River.

Please look through all the  information on this page to find out how you can participate in the paddle-a-thon.  Beginners welcome!*

HOW THE PADDLE-A-THON WORKS
First register for your leg or legs of Paddle to the Sea. You can opt to register as an individual, or you can start or join a team.  Once you register, a personal fund-raising page is automatically created for you.  You can then customize you page if you like by adding your own pictures and text, or you can use the sample page that we have provided.  Then you simply email the link of your personal web page to your friends and family and ask them to sponsor you.  Your sponsors will be able to make a secure donation in your name right from your page.  All paddlers must raise a minimum of $60.  You can of course opt to sponsor yourself.  However, we recommend reaching out to your friends and family as it helps to build grassroots support for the Tuolumne!  All donations are tax-deductible and go directly to support the Tuolumne River Trust's work to protect and restore the River.  If you need help, our staff will happily assist you in managing your web page and figuring out how to meet your goal.

FORMING A TEAM
We highly encourage paddlers to form teams.  Participating along with family, friends, or co-workers makes the paddling and the fundraising that much more fun!  Team captains should register under the "Start a Team" option and create a team name.  Subsequently, team members can register under "Join a Team" and can select the team name under a scroll down menu.  Regular registration fees and fund-raising requirements apply.

Principal Paddlers
Interested in doing it all?  Paddle to the Sea is seeking dedicated river lovers to go the distance and paddle the full trip.  All are welcome to apply, regardless of paddling experience.  Includes legs of the trip not open to the public, and additional opportunities to get involved as desired.  This is an excellent opportunity to partner with a successful non-profit for a great cause, and to see the Tuolumne River or the American River as few have ever seen it before.  Learn more about becoming a principal paddler.

Virtual Paddlers
If you want to help raise funds for the Tuolumne but you can't go out on the water, you can sign up to be a virtual paddler!  Virtual paddlers will get their own personal website just like regular paddlers, and they are eligible for all the same fundraising prizes.  Choose this option when you register.

Kids
Only certain legs of Paddle to the Sea are open to kids under 12 years old.  Kids from ages 7-12 who are accompanied by at least one parent are welcome to join us for the flat water Class 1 canoeing and rafting trips on the Lower Tuolumne and San Joaquin, and on the American River Parkway legs. To register a child below age 12 for a day of paddling, call Paddle to the Sea Director Jessie Raeder at our toll-free number: 1-888-994-3344 ext. 301.  Please DO NOT register a child online.

Dogs may be welcome on certain legs of Paddle to the Sea if approved in advance.  Call Paddle to the Sea Director Jessie Raeder at 1-888-994-3344 or email paddle@tuolumne.org to inquire about bringing your dog.  Please DO NOT bring your dog without talking with us about it beforehand.  Dogs will be expected to travel with the owner in their boat, have prior on-water experience, and generally be well-behaved.
